Alpha's Regret She Came Back a Storm
Synopsis
He sent me seven divorce papers, demanding I accept his mistress. On the seventh, I signed. Then I learned the truth: he killed my daughter for her, and made me raise their son. I left. Now I am Nocturne—a hacker, a billionaire, a ghost he cannot touch. I am back to destroy his empire and find my daughter. Alpha, you took my blood. Now I am coming for yours.
Chapter1
The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and something older, something that lingered beneath the sterile surface like a memory that refused to fade. Elara Blackwood had been staring at the same white ceiling for three months now. Three months of counting cracks in the paint, of listening to the low hum of healing machines, of wondering whether anyone in the Blackwood Pack even remembered she existed.
She knew the answer to that question. It wasn't a pleasant one.
Her fingers moved slowly against the thin hospital blanket, testing the strength that had finally begun to return to them. Two months paralyzed. One month of slow, painful recovery. The chemical attack that had nearly killed her had left her body broken in ways the pack doctors had claimed were permanent.
They had been wrong. Elara had always been good at proving people wrong.
The door opened without a knock. Rowan Pierce stepped inside, and the expression on his face told her everything she needed to know before he even opened his mouth. His shoulders were tight, his jaw clenched, and his eyes held that careful, brittle look of a man carrying something he desperately wished he could drop.
"Luna," Rowan said, his voice measured and cautious. "Alpha Alaric has sent another divorce agreement."
Elara did not react. Not visibly. Inside, something that had once been raw and bleeding had long since scarred over into something harder. This was the seventh time. Seven.
"He said he would reconsider if you agreed to accept Rosalie as your co-Luna," Rowan continued, each word dropping carefully from his lips. "He has been telling the pack that you will accept anyway, that you love him too much to go through with a divorce."
Rowan stopped. The rest of his sentence died somewhere in his throat.
Elara sat up slowly. The movement sent sharp pain through her spine, but she ignored it the way she had learned to ignore so many things. She reached for the pen on the bedside table, her fingers steady, and took the document from Rowan's hands.
She signed her name without reading it. The scratch of pen against paper filled the silence.
"Luna..." Rowan breathed, his eyes wide. "Why did you sign this time?"
Elara looked up at him and smiled. It was a faint, tired smile, the kind that did not reach her eyes.
"My mother once told me that seven is the number of perfection," she said quietly. "If something cannot be saved six times, it will not be saved on the seventh."
Rowan stood frozen, the signed document in his hands now feeling heavier than it had moments before. For three months, he had watched Elara waste away in this room, visited only by doctors who came because it was their job, not because they cared. He had watched her fight alone against a paralysis that should have been permanent.
He had watched her heal herself through sheer will, through medical knowledge that the pack had relied on for years but never truly appreciated.
And now she was signing away her marriage like it meant nothing.
"This is the last time," Elara said, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. Pain flared with every movement, sharp and warning, but she welcomed it. After months of numbness, pain meant she was alive.
Rowan opened his mouth to speak, but Elara was already standing. Her legs trembled beneath her weight, but they held. She took one step, then another.
"Luna, you can walk?" Rowan's voice cracked with disbelief.
"The chemical exposure left me paralyzed," Elara said, her voice calm. "Doctors wrote me off as a lost cause. But no one knows my body the way I do."
She moved toward the small closet and pulled out a thin hospital robe. Her regular clothes were gone, probably taken by Rosalie's people. It didn't matter. She wouldn't need them.
"Tell Alaric," she said, pulling the robe over her hospital gown, "that a co-Luna won't be necessary. He should just make her Luna once the divorce is finalized."
Rowan did not argue. Secretly, he was relieved. He had been Beta of this pack for years, had watched Luna Seraphine—Elara, he corrected himself—pour everything she had into protecting people who never protected her back.
"The coronation ceremony," Elara said, pausing at the door. "That's what the music is about, isn't it?"
Rowan lowered his head. "Alpha Alaric is announcing Rosalie as co-Luna. Alphas from other packs were invited without their Lunas."
Elara smiled, but her eyes were empty. She took the signed divorce papers back from Rowan's hands and walked out of the pack hospital, still dressed in her thin hospital gown.
The music grew louder as she approached the ceremonial hall. Pack members she had bled for stared as she passed, their eyes filled with confusion and disbelief.
"She's alive?"
"She's walking, no wheelchair, no crutches..."
Elara ignored them all. She pushed open the heavy doors.
The room fell apart.
Alpha Alaric Blackwood stood at the center of the hall, tall and immaculate in a cream-colored suit tailored to perfection. His dark hair was swept back, his jaw cleanly shaven, and his presence commanded the room the way it always had.
Beside him stood Rosalie Vaughn, draped in a gown of shimmering gold that matched her blonde hair. She looked like sunlight wrapped in silk, delicate and radiant.
Both of them turned toward Elara.
The silence was absolute.
"Sera," Alaric said, his voice soft but his eyes glacial. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be recovering?"
That was Alaric. Keeping up appearances among guests and pack members with gentle words wrapped in frozen eyes.
"I'm here to give you this," Elara said, stepping forward.
Before Alaric could reach her, she pressed the papers into his chest. "There's no need to crown her co-Luna," she said clearly. "You're free to make her Luna instead. I've already signed the divorce papers."
Her words detonated across the hall.
Alaric's perfect composure shattered. For the first time in all the years she had known him, Elara saw something she had never expected. Fear.
