Synopsis

Sir, You Are out

Chapter1

"Tick! Tick!"

The sound of the clock ticking away filled the living room.

"Mrs. Harrison, it's almost dawn, go to bed to have a rest." The maid Nonna persuaded with a little pity.

On the sofa, a thin woman was sitting quietly, wearing only a plain white nightgown.

The dim yellow light illuminated her pale, almost transparent profile, with a half-seen hint of haze.

Her chapped lips opened and closed, "He said he would come back."

He had said so.

Sylvia Smith kept repeating this in her heart.

"But..." Nonna was about to say something, but the door was opened the next second.

"Click."

There was a crisp sound of opening the door, and Nonna said excitedly, "Mr. Harrison is back!"

When Sylvia looked back, what she saw was the familiar handsome face with carved features, showing a bit of coldness.

It was Clayton Harrison.

It was her husband who had returned.

For a moment, she raised her smiling face and quickly got up to meet him.

She had kept a posture for a long time, and her body wobbled slightly after being set into a sudden motion, which made her almost fall down.

"Clayton..."

She called his name with joy in her voice.

But sooner, she saw a petite figure behind Clayton.

It was Carran Davis, Clayton's first love in college.

Sylvia looked down at their fingers which were interlocked, and a smile full of hope froze on her face. Her whole body seemed to have fallen into an ice cellar where her limbs, bones, and even her soul cracked with frost!

When she was transfixed with shock, Clayton's deep voice came again, "You go first."

These words were obviously addressed to Nonna.

She looked at the three people in front of her and knew what was probably going to happen before she bowed her head and backed away.

In a blink of an eye, there were only three people standing opposite each other in this huge space.

The clock ticked away incessantly, and the time fleeted by every second.

The air seemed to be filled with the tension of a horror movie climax.

Carran spoke first, breaking the dead silence in the room.

"Clayton... How about I go first?"

While speaking, she gently shook Clayton's hand and looked at him affectionately with her big expressive eyes.

Clayton lowered his deep black eyes, which revealed tenderness and pity, "It's not you who should go."

These words fell into Sylvia's heart like a huge boulder, which pressed her so hard that she found it difficult to breathe.

As she had expected, she soon saw Clayton looking toward her.

In an instant, his glance became piercingly cold without the slightest affection as if it were directed toward an insignificant stranger.

"You can move out."

Without hesitation, he sentenced her to death with his words.

At that moment, she only felt that her hands and feet were frozen, and the world before her had turned black and white.

She didn't know how she came back to herself, but she heard her own voice in a trance.

"Why?"

The unnecessary question was like the last dying struggle of a drowning person.

Clayton frowned his slender eyebrows in displeasure, "This house was originally reserved for Carran, you should know."

Sylvia twitched the corner of her mouth lightly.

Of course she knew...

After so many years, he still couldn't forget Carran.

She had thought that she could move him with her love, but she was too naive after all.

How could she move a person who didn't love her at all?

In the silence, Carran's voice rang again.

"Sylvia, don't blame Clayton. I am pregnant with his child, and he is worried that I will live alone and not be able to take good care of myself and the child, so..."

The soft and weak voice floated to Sylvia's ear, and her head buzzed in shock.

Raising her eyes, she happened to see Carran caressing her abdomen as if to show off some spoils.

At this moment, she knew the pain of a heart torn apart...

Maybe because she was also a pregnant woman, she slightly raised her hand to caress her lower abdomen, but she held back.

The reason why she had to wait until Clayton came back tonight was that when she went to the hospital in the afternoon, she learned that she was two months pregnant.

She wanted to tell him herself that she was pregnant with his child.

But, the joy that brimmed her heart subsided in its infancy.

"I..." Before Sylvia could continue her speech, she was rudely interrupted by Clayton.

"What do you stay here for? Or are you going to be a servant?"

These aggressive words completely dashed Sylvia's last ray of hope on him.

Before she said anything, Carran pulled Clayton again, "Don't be like this, Sylvia is your wife, and I am the one who should leave..."

As she said that, Carran lowered her eyes, and her crystal teardrops fell in torrents.

Clayton suddenly felt pity for her, "What wife? She is just your substitute. Don't worry, Carran, I will definitely give you and our children a title."

That gentle tone disappeared when he turned to look at Sylvia in the next second, "This is a divorce agreement, and I will give you sufficient alimony. Leave here at dawn!"

Then Sylvia saw a document being thrown at her feet.

Looking up again, she saw Clayton vanishing outside the door with his beloved in his arms.

The living room regained its previous tranquility.

After standing for a long time, Sylvia bent down to pick up the divorce agreement on the ground and turned to the last page.

In the signature block, it was his name written in a flamboyant style.

For some reason, her vision was blurred.

She remembered that when they got married, he also signed his name in such a style...

It was all over in the blink of an eye.

Was time fleeting too fast, or was their connection not solid enough?

Nonna didn't dare to come out until the living room quieted down, but she saw Sylvia squatting motionless on the ground at a glance and ran over anxiously, "Mrs. Harrison?"

She touched Sylvia lightly, and Sylvia fell to the ground in an instant like a broken ceramic doll.

She bit her lower lip firmly without saying a word, tears trickling down her cheeks.

Seeing that she was still holding some documents in her hand, Nonna took a look and was enlightened by the words "Divorce Agreement" written on them in big characters.

She had bore witness to the ardent love Mrs. Harrison had devoted to her husband these years.

But she really didn't expect...

Nonna hugged Sylvia distressedly and cried, "Mrs. Harrison, don't be sad. It's over. It's over..."

The last defense line in Sylvia's heart finally collapsed at this time.

She burst into tears.

"I'm in so much pain... I don't want to love him anymore, Nonna, let's go... Let's get out of here..."

"Okay, okay, I'll call Mr. Smith right now..." Nonna kept stroking her back, comforting her with tears.

Sylvia couldn't remember how long she had cried that day. She only knew that when she left, she cast a backward glance at the villa where they had been living for three years and could no longer make out its outline.

In the sky, there was still a misty drizzle.

Even God was lamenting the loss of her past three years, which had been devoted to the wrong person.

The neighbors passing by were discussing her affairs.

"There seemed to be a quarrel next door last night? I heard that they are going to get a divorce?"

"I guessed it a long time ago! That husband doesn't come back often, and he must have someone outside!"

"This Mrs. Harrison is so pitiful. She was kicked out like this, why..."

Before everyone could speak, a Rolls Royce stopped behind Sylvia.

The driver quickly got out of the car, bowed respectfully, and opened the door for her.

"Miss. Smith, Mr. Smith asked me to take you home."
