Chapter 1: The Flower Shop and the Storm
Yoon Ji-hye hummed softly as she arranged a bouquet of pastel peonies, the scent of fresh blooms filling the cozy shop. “Love & Petals” had been her mother’s dream before it became hers, a little sanctuary hidden within Seoul’s bustling streets.
Outside, raindrops pattered against the glass windows. Ji-hye barely noticed until the bell over her shop’s entrance jingled violently. She looked up—only to see a drenched, frustrated man storming inside.
“Do you sell white lilies?” His deep voice was laced with impatience.
Ji-hye blinked at the sight before her. The man was tall, dressed in a sharply tailored suit that was now slightly wet. His jet-black hair dripped with rain, and his sharp jawline clenched in irritation.
“We do,” she replied, moving to the counter. “But you should dry off first—”
“I don’t have time for that.” He pulled out a sleek wallet, his gaze impassive. “Ten bouquets. Fast.”
Ji-hye raised an eyebrow. “You’re buying flowers in a rush? Who even buys ten bouquets like that?”
His lips pressed into a thin line. “That’s none of your concern.”
She crossed her arms. “Well, in my shop, it is. Flowers aren’t just bought—they’re chosen.”
The man let out a breath, clearly exasperated. “Fine. They’re for my employees. A formality.”
Ji-hye softened slightly but kept her stance. “Then you should at least pick the right ones. White lilies can symbolize sympathy. Are you trying to fire them or thank them?”
His eyes flickered with something unreadable. “I—” He hesitated. “Then recommend something.”
A small smirk played on Ji-hye’s lips. “Sunflowers. Bright, warm, and they mean appreciation.”
The man studied her for a moment, then nodded. “Sunflowers, then.”
As she arranged the bouquets, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this man wasn’t the type to frequent flower shops. Yet here he was, standing in hers.
And he had no idea he was about to turn her world upside down.
