The New Year Express
Synopsis
On New Year’s Eve 2025, Rax and his close-knit group of friends step onto a mysterious midnight train that only appears for the final hour of the year. Inside are three impossible cars-one to store regrets, one to plant a single wish, and one to mail a letter through time-with a brutal rule: choose only one-forget something, or make one wish come true. As the countdown to 2026 tightens, Rax must make a choice that won’t just change the year… but change who he becomes when the excitement fades and real life begins.
Chapter1
Every year ends the same way: fireworks, countdowns, people promising they’ll change-then waking up with the same habits in a new calendar.
But there’s a rumor that doesn’t belong to party talk.
A train that only runs during the last hour of each year.
Not a commuter line. Not a tourist gimmick. Not a ghost story with a moral taped on at the end.
A real train.
It arrives when the year is almost done and you’re tired enough to tell the truth-at least to yourself.
And if you’re invited… you don’t really get to pretend you weren’t.
At 11:00 PM on December 31st, 2025, the station is packed with people pretending the world is normal.
Then the air changes.
The platform lights feel too steady. The noise dulls like someone laid a blanket over the crowd. The rails don’t hum. Even the announcements seem to hesitate.
That’s when it glides in.
Deep blue. Clean lines. No graffiti, no ad posters, no operator logo. The windows reflect the platform back at itself like a mirror asking, Are you sure you want another year exactly like the last one?
The doors open without a sound.
And the conductor steps down holding a passenger list that looks like it’s been rewritten a thousand times.
“All aboard,” he calls, voice carrying far too clearly. “The New Year Express. Sixty minutes to our destination-the year 2026.”
Some people laugh. Some step back. Some stare like they’re waiting for the punchline.
But a small group moves forward like they already decided weeks ago.
And in the middle of them is Rax.
