Deep gray eyes. Cold as winter iron. There was no fanaticism there, no hatred, none of the twenty-year-old bile that filled Dorian’s face. In the plaza, the guards dragged Seraphine toward the dungeon. As she was hauled over the final threshold, she glanced back one last time. The black carriage was gone, lost in the corners of the street. But she remembered those gray eyes.
