简介

For five years, I was his perfect fiancée, an ice princess molded for his world. But on our engagement night, he humiliated me for another woman—a duplicitous snake he called his true love. He believed her lies, slapped me for a crime I didn't commit, and even forced me to give my blood as his twisted form of 'atonement'. He thought he had broken me. Instead, he set me free. Now, with his world crumbling under the weight of his regret, he scours the globe to beg for forgiveness. But it's too late. The woman who loved him died in that hospital. My forgiveness is a price he can no longer afford.

章節1

Hope, I had learned, was a fragile thing.

I was standing in my bedroom, the soft silk of my engagement party gown brushing against my skin, my heart a frantic hummingbird in my chest. For five years, I had loved Julian Rothschild. Five years of quiet adoration, of molding myself into the perfect fiancée for the heir to the Rothschild empire. Tonight was the culmination of it all—the night our two powerful families would officially celebrate our union.

A soft knock on my door pulled me from my reverie. I expected my mother, but it was Clara Hayes, Julian’s assistant, a girl I’d always treated with kindness, almost like a younger sister.

“Miss Eloise,” she said, her voice a sweet, cloying whisper. “Can I have a word before we go down? Just for a moment.”

I smiled, gesturing her in. “Of course, Clara. Is something wrong?”

She closed the door behind her, and the gentle, mousy façade she usually wore seemed to melt away, replaced by a cool, triumphant smirk. “Oh, no. Everything is finally right.”

She took a step closer, and my smile faltered. There was a dangerous glint in her eye.

“I just thought you should know,” she began, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial purr, “before tonight’s… festivities.”

With a slow, deliberate movement, she pulled aside the collar of her modest dress. There, stark against the pale skin of her neck and collarbone, was a constellation of angry red marks. Love bites. Bruises left by a passionate, almost violent lover.

My breath hitched. I knew, with a sickening certainty, whose teeth had made those marks.

“Julian says he loves my passion,” Clara murmured, her eyes gleaming with malicious delight as she watched my face crumble. “He says it’s a fire he’s never found in you. He calls you his ice princess.”

She leaned in, her sweet perfume making me want to retch. “He says he’s tired of the cold, Eloise. He wants a woman who burns.”

The world tilted on its axis. The five years of my devotion, my sacrifices, my unwavering love—it all turned to ash in that single, brutal moment. The man I was about to stand beside, to pledge my life to, had been burying himself in the flesh of another woman.

He had made a mockery of my love. Of me.

I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. A profound, icy numbness washed over me, freezing the heartbreak before it could even begin.

“Thank you for telling me, Clara,” I heard myself say, my voice a distant, hollow echo.

She looked disappointed by my lack of hysterics but recovered quickly, her triumphant smirk returning. “You’re welcome. I just thought the future Luna should know who truly warms the Alpha’s bed.”

With a final, pitying glance, she turned and left my room, leaving me alone with the ghost of my dead love and the ugly, irrefutable marks of his betrayal.
