Sometimes, the paths we choose begin to separate from the person we once thought we would become. There are moments when a person stands between what they desire and what they eventually become, uncertain of which path truly belongs to them.

This book is closer to a collection of memoirs than a series of passing pieces of advice. It is a perspective shaped by experiences, observations, and a deeper exploration of another world—the world of the field, of wars, endurance, patience, determination, and resilience.

These pages are not merely perspectives or a narration of imagination. They are closer to an attempt to give something to the person who does not know how to begin, where to begin, or even who to become.

And before all of that, there is one question that must be faced.

Who am I?

Am I merely a name?

A title?

Or simply a profession that I hide behind, using it as a cover for the person I truly am?

Sometimes, we must learn who we are within ourselves, not who we appear to be in front of others.

We need a mirror that reflects us—not the image we have created for people, not the identity attached to a title, and not the role we have learned to perform, but the person standing behind all of it.

A mirror in which we can look closely enough to ask ourselves:

Who am I?

From my point of view, leadership begins here.

Not with commanding others, but with learning how to lead both the mind and the heart together, whether in the field or wherever you find yourself.

Before you attempt to lead anything else, evaluate yourself.

How patient are you?

How quickly do you understand?

How persistent are you?

How strong is your ability to observe?

How quickly can you make decisions?

Do not simply recognize these qualities. Separate them.

Place each one where it belongs, under two names:

Strengths.

Weaknesses.

Then begin by strengthening your weaknesses.

Because your strengths do not need to be changed.

They need to be polished.

There is a difference between changing what makes you strong and refining it until it becomes sharper, more controlled, and more capable.

A person who changes all of their strengths will eventually lose what distinguishes them from everyone else.

This is one of the greatest mistakes a person can make when rebuilding themselves: following the personalities of others, imitating them, or attempting to transform themselves into someone they are not.

You do not become stronger by becoming a copy.

You become stronger by understanding what already exists within you, recognizing what needs to be strengthened, and preserving what makes you different.

Self-control is part of that process.

So is becoming accustomed to enduring situations that are more difficult than what you are normally used to.

So is noticing the small things.

And maintaining constant attention.

There are moments when a person becomes accustomed to making decisions too late. In those moments, the problem is not always the decision itself, but the unnecessary things that are allowed to enter into it.

Learn to move beyond what you do not need in a decision.

Look deeper into the problem before attempting to solve it.

Do not rush simply because a decision must be made.

Understand what stands before you first.

Then decide.

The mind must learn to observe before it reacts, and to understand before it chooses.

That is where the process begins.

Not with becoming someone else.

But with finally learning who you are.
