I woke one morning and reached for the notebook where I always kept my daily schedule. It had become a habit so ordinary that I never questioned it. Every morning seemed destined to resemble the one before it. I believed that this day, too, would pass quietly, carrying nothing more remarkable than the familiar rhythm of home. I had no way of knowing that it would become the morning that divided my life into two separate worlds—the life before that dawn, and everything that came after it.

Just before dawn, I stepped outside. The air was cool, carrying the faint scent of damp earth left behind by the night. The entire neighborhood was wrapped in silence, the kind that belongs only to the final moments before sunrise, when even the birds have not yet begun to sing. The houses stood motionless beneath the fading darkness, and the streets looked almost peaceful.

Then I heard someone calling my name.
